Domain Registration Requirements

After you have found the right domain name for you new web site and you have also decided which Registrar to register your domain with, you will need to prepare :

Primary and Secondary Name Servers

You will be asked to provide at least two name servers, one primary server and the rest are secondary servers.

If you have chosen a web hosting provider (Read section on Choosing Web Hosting), you just use the name servers they provide for you (mostly they have made name servers' name something like ns0.somedomain.com, ns1.somedomain.com, ns2.somedomain.com, etc, already available for their clients).

In case you have not decided the web host, you can just leave it to the default name servers provided by your registrar, and later you can change them when your web host is ready.

Registrant Information

This will be the registered domain holder (you), whether you are an individual or representing your company. The requered information includes your name, your company, postal address, e-mail address and telephone number.

Administrative Contact

This is the person in charge for all administrative matters (billing etc.) of the domain. Of course it can also be you. This person will be contacted when the domain renewal is due and you need to pay the renewal fee.

Technical Contact

This is the person in charge for all technical matters. It is advisable to assign your technical person (or even yourself) here as you would not get trouble when the time comes for you to change the name servers or to modify DNS Zone Records. However if you have no idea yet as to what is it, you can just leave it to registrar default (if they do provide the technical contact) and change it later when you are ready.

Most Registrars give you access to modify all contact information any time after 60 days period in the future. However please bear in mind that some Registrars do not allow Registrant name to be changed unless you contact them to do so for you.
